A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 has struck Russia’s Far East, specifically off the Kamchatka Peninsula near Petropavlovsk, causing tsunamis up to four meters high across the Pacific.
The quake, one of the strongest since 2011, led to the flooding of Severo-Kurilsk, where around 2,000 residents were evacuated.
Also, Tsunami waves reached the town’s WWII monument, about 400 meters from shore. While Several people were injured, the earthquake also triggered evacuations and warnings from Hawaii to Japan.
