Governor of Oyo State Seyi Makinde has emphasized the critical role of traditional institutions in Nigeria’s community policing and national development during a colloquium celebrating the 10th coronation anniversary of the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi.

Speaking at the Federal University of Technology Akure, Makinde highlighted that traditional rulers are essential for mobilizing communities, supporting initiatives like the Amotekun Corps, and managing local tourism sites such as Iyake Lake and Idere Hills.

He advocated for integrating traditional institutions into Nigeria’s security and development frameworks through legal reforms, emphasizing stronger partnerships between traditional and modern governance structures.

The Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, and the Deji of Akure also stressed the importance of constitutionally recognizing traditional rulers for their roles in security and governance, urging respect and promotion of these institutions for nation-building.
