A comprehensive peace agreement has been signed between the Congolese government and the Rwanda-backed M23 rebel group in Doha, Qatar, aiming to end conflict in eastern DRC.
The deal includes a permanent ceasefire across land, air, and water, and bans sabotage, propaganda, and territorial advances by force.
Both parties committed to cooperate with international efforts and to restore state authority in the region. The agreement also addresses humanitarian issues, including the safe return of refugees and displaced persons, and calls for collaboration with UN peacekeepers. However, final peace negotiations are scheduled to conclude by August 1.
