Super Falcons of Nigeria has advanced to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final in Morocco after a dramatic 2-1 victory over South Africa.
The match was closely contested and nearly went into extra time, but defender Michelle Alozie scored a late, winning goal in the 94th minute with a long-range shot, after a setup from Esther Okoronkwo.
Nigeria’s earlier goal came from a penalty by captain Rasheedat Ajibade in the 44th minute, following a handball by a South African defender. However, while South Africa equalized in the 56th minute through a penalty converted by Linda Motlhalo, the victory secures Nigeria’s chance to defend their title and attempt to claim a record 10th WAFCON crown, with their final opponent to be either Morocco or Ghana.
