Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is collaborating with the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) to facilitate voting rights for inmates.
INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu confirmed that the Appeal Court has granted inmates the right to register and vote. He emphasized that voting is a human right and highlighted efforts to develop legal provisions to support inmates’ voting rights, including discussions with the National Assembly.
Yakubu also noted ongoing arrangements with NCoS to address logistical concerns and ensure inmates’ participation in elections.
