Ghana has buried two of the eight victims of a helicopter crash in Accra, including former Environment Minister Ibrahim Muhammed Murtala and Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed, with a military funeral after a tribute from President John Mahama.
The victims’ bodies were identified through DNA analysis in South Africa. A state funeral is scheduled for August 15, 2025. The crash, one of Ghana’s worst in over a decade, also killed Defense Minister Edward Omane Boamah. The helicopter involved was a Z-9 used for transport and medical evacuations, and an investigation into the accident is ongoing.
