Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff Gen Christopher Musa has urged Nigerians to adopt ranching to curb farmer-herder clashes by preventing livestock from damaging farmlands.

Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, he highlighted that ranching would reduce tensions, boost livestock productivity, and is a private business venture, not a government land grab. Musa also discussed rebranding the Defence Industries Corporation to enhance local production of military equipment, including armoured vehicles and drones, to improve security, create jobs, and enable exports.

He emphasized regional cooperation through the African Standby Force and announced the Maiden African Chiefs of Defence Staff Conference (August 25–27) to address contemporary security threats, with over 90% of African nations confirming attendance.
