Hamas has accepted a new ceasefire proposal for Gaza without amendments, as confirmed by a source following mediation by Egypt and Qatar, with US support.

The proposal includes a 60-day truce with the release of 10 Israeli hostages and several bodies in the first phase, followed by further releases and negotiations for a permanent solution. Israel has not yet responded, amid its recent approval to expand military operations in Gaza City, which has faced criticism. The conflict, sparked by Hamas’s October 2023 attack killing 1,219 people, has resulted in over 62,004 Palestinian deaths and a severe humanitarian crisis, with famine warnings and accusations of deliberate starvation by Israel, which it denies.

Egypt is open to joining an international force in Gaza if supported by a UN resolution. Mediators are pushing for a swift agreement to address the dire situation.
