former presidential candidate and Labour Party leader Peter Obi has strongly criticized the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) for proposing a salary increase of over 100% for political office holders.
In a statement on X, Obi called the move a “shameless grab for more” that reflects the greed and insensitivity of political leaders, especially given Nigeria’s economic struggles. He argued that the hike is unjustifiable and prioritizes politicians over the needs of the masses and underpaid security personnel like police officers.
Obi also emphasized that political office should serve the nation, not enrich individuals, and urged the RMAFC to focus on improving the welfare of public workers, who have been neglected for too long.
