National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has cautioned the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) against a potential strike that could destabilize the education system.
In a statement issued on Friday by NANS President Olushola Oladoja and PRO Adeyemi Samson, the association acknowledged ASUU’s grievances, including issues with the 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement, salary arrears, withheld promotions, and retirees’ welfare. However, NANS warned that a strike would harm students and urged both parties to resolve disputes through dialogue.
The association praised President Tinubu’s Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and the uninterrupted academic calendar, urging the government to address ASUU’s demands urgently and ASUU to avoid industrial action to protect students’ academic progress.
