Ondo State Government has introduced measures to reform the education sector, including banning private schools from holding graduation ceremonies for nursery, primary, and junior secondary school students.

Commissioner for Education, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, announced these steps in Akure, aiming to sanitize the sector. Other measures include prohibiting unregistered schools, offering a six-month grace period for illegal schools to gain approval, and reviewing school approval conditions. All private schools must meet minimum standards, and elaborate graduation ceremonies are banned, particularly for nursery and JSS classes. Schools are also prohibited from organizing unapproved excursions due to security concerns, and mandatory extra lessons are discouraged.

The government has banned the annual purchase of new textbooks to reduce costs for parents, allowing siblings to reuse textbooks. Additionally, the state is digitizing all schools, with plans to migrate students to the Ministry of Education’s digital platform.
