Sudanese cabinet has held its first meeting in Khartoum over two months after the army recaptured the city, marking a symbolic step toward restoring government institutions there.

Led by Prime Minister Kamal Idris, the ministers discussed plans for the year, focusing on post-war reconstruction, economic recovery, security, and returning displaced citizens.

The government, currently operating from Port Sudan, aims to be fully back in Khartoum by October. Before now, the city has been a battleground between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, with recent gains by the army. Despite progress, the country remains in conflict, which has caused tens of thousands of deaths and displaced about 15 million, stemming from tensions between military leaders over the integration of paramilitary forces and transition plans.
