The death toll from Sunday’s 6.0 magnitude earthquake in eastern Afghanistan has risen to 800, with 2,500 injured, according to the Taliban government.

The earthquake, centered near Jalalabad in Nangarhar province and affecting Kunar province, caused extensive destruction in numerous villages.

Rescue efforts are underway, with footage showing injured individuals being evacuated and villagers digging through rubble. Many structures, mainly low-rise and poorly constructed, have been destroyed, leading to urgent calls for aid from residents, especially in heavily affected areas like Nurgal district.
