President Bola has  reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to enhancing international partnerships, particularly with Colombia, during a meeting with Colombian Vice President Francia Márquez in Abuja.

Tinubu emphasized aligning Nigeria’s foreign relations with global trends in trade, politics, and culture, noting that global economic volatility necessitates new partnerships. He promised to replicate agreements signed with Brazil on aviation and consular issues with Colombia and urged Colombian business leaders to invest in Nigeria’s oil, gas, and agriculture sectors, highlighting the country’s youthful population and skilled workforce.

Meanwhile Vice President Kashim Shettima noted that the visit would reconnect ancestral ties disrupted by slavery and colonialism, fostering economic collaboration based on shared cultural and political similarities. Márquez, the first black Vice President of Colombia, emphasized strengthening ties in aviation, visas, political consultations, cultural exchanges, and trade, aiming for mutual benefits in social justice, gender equality, and inclusivity. She also highlighted Nigeria’s leadership in Africa and the potential for enhanced relations with Latin America and the Caribbean.
