Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) are strengthening their collaboration to unify identity and voter registration processes in Nigeria.

INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu praised their partnership, noting that both agencies hold Nigeria’s largest biometric databases—INEC for elections and NIMC for citizenship identification. He expressed optimism about integrating these systems to allow citizens to vote from any location nationwide, a move that would require ongoing cooperation.

As part of this effort, NIMC will deploy officials to INEC voter registration centers across the country, enabling Nigerians to register for the National Identification Number (NIN) simultaneously with voter registration. A pilot program in Anambra State has already been conducted, and plans are underway to expand this nationwide.
