Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has endorsed 20-year-old British-Nigerian fighter Moses Itauma as ready to face him, praising his potential as a future boxing star. Usyk’s comments follow Itauma’s first-round knockout of Dillian Whyte in August, earning him $1.5m and maintaining his 13-0 record with 11 KOs.
Recall Itauma called out Usyk post-fight, though critics argue it’s too early for such a challenge.
Usyk on the other hand, currently recovering from a back injury after defeating Daniel Dubois in July, faces a WBO mandatory defense against Joseph Parker but has not yet confirmed the fight. Itauma, guided by promoter Frank Warren, is set to face another top contender later this year as he progresses toward a world title shot.
Usyk risks losing his WBO title if he cannot provide injury evidence, while Parker may face Fabio Wardley in the interim.
