Local government chairmen in Ondo State have accused Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of withholding funds essential for running their councils, despite a July 2024 Supreme Court ruling granting local governments financial autonomy.
They revealed that only N4 million of their expected N600 million monthly FAAC allocation is released, with the rest being returned to the Ministry of Local Government due to government directives.
The chairmen expressed fear of openly protesting the issue. In response, the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has denied any misconduct, asserting that the arrangement is a collective decision within the ruling party and that the government is managing funds for responsibilities like healthcare and education.
