Nigeria Labour Congress and federal government workers are demanding an urgent review of the national minimum wage, arguing that the current ₦70,000 is no longer sustainable due to rising inflation and living costs. While President Bola Tinubu signed a law in July 2024 increasing the minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000, some states have already surpassed this, with Imo raising it to ₦104,000, Lagos to ₦85,000, and others like Rivers, Bayelsa, Niger, Enugu, and Akwa Ibom implementing higher wages.

Labour leaders emphasize that inflation has eroded the wage’s value, and unless the government acts swiftly, workers’ livelihoods will worsen. They have engaged the government multiple times, urging an urgent adjustment to reflect current economic realities.
