Zambian government and the family of late former President Edgar Lungu are currently engaging in mediated talks to resolve a long-standing dispute over his funeral arrangements.

With the family initially wanting a private burial abroad, the government had insisted on a state funeral in Lusaka.

However, After a legal battle and South African court rulings, Lungu’s remains are to be repatriated to Zambia. Both sides have now agreed to mediation, aiming to balance protocols with the family’s wishes, promote unity, and honor Lungu’s legacy.
