Former Super Eagles midfielder Haruna Lukman has criticized the Nigerian Premier League for its poor quality, alleging match-fixing during a Rivers united FC vs. Ikorodu City match and a lack of respect for players with European experience, who are offered low wages.
He stated he would never recommend his siblings play in the league. Additionally, Haruna revealed internal conflicts during Nigeria’s 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign in South Africa, describing physical and spiritual disputes among players, lack of unity, and prioritization of personal interests over teamwork, which contributed to the Super Eagles’ group-stage exit under coach Lars Lagerbäck.
