Lawmaker representing Nkwere in the Imo State House of Assembly, Chisom Ojukwu has presented a motion urging the state government to direct the Chairman of Owerri Municipal Council to rename the iconic Douglas Road in Owerri.

Speaking during a plenary session as the House resumed after a long recess, Ojukwu questioned the relevance of retaining the name “Douglas Road,” which commemorates Harold Douglas — a colonial figure whom he described as having brought pain and suffering to the people of Imo during the colonial era.

Addressing journalists after the session, the lawmaker suggested that the road should instead be renamed after Governor Hope Uzodimma, in recognition of his contributions to the development of Imo State whilst he’s still alive.
