Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu to identify and prosecute politicians and parties violating laws against early election campaigns, which undermine Nigeria’s electoral integrity.

SERAP emphasized that INEC has the legal authority to sanction such violations and should develop clear regulations to prevent premature campaigning.

The organization criticized INEC’s recent concerns about early campaigns, asserting that these actions are unconstitutional and harmful to economic development, and warned that failure to enforce prohibitions could foster impunity.

Additionally, SERAP called for urgent action within seven days, warning of legal measures if the requests are ignored. The broader context highlights Nigeria’s economic struggles, including increased public spending, infrastructure issues, and widespread poverty.
