Chairman of Nigeria’s National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, has dismissed claims that the sports kits provided to Nigerian athletes at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships were inferior.

This follows criticism from athlete Tobi Amusan, who expressed concerns about the quality and presentation of the kits, alleging poor packaging and missing items like shoes. While the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) defended the provision, stating athletes received full kits, and the quality was comparable to those of other countries, with any issues likely related to packaging rather than content, Dikko emphasized that the kits from sponsor HiRacer were of standard quality and that the controversy was unnecessary. The incident reignites ongoing debates about athlete welfare, transparency, and past logistical issues in Nigeria’s sports administration.
