Abia State Government, responding to the flood alert from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, have ordered extensive desilting of blocked drainages across the state to prevent flooding, particularly in Aba and Umuahia.

‎The Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) is working tirelessly to clear drains, and have urged residents not to dump refuse in gutters. The state will participate in World Cleanup Day on September 25, 2025, collaborating with stakeholders to promote cleanliness.

‎meanwhile The government’s Sanitary Inspection Services, launched in August 2025, has inspected 4,500 premises across 85 communities to maintain Abia as Nigeria’s cleanest state, with inspectors warned against extortion and to enforce only established fines. Additionally, a statewide tree-planting campaign was approved to enhance climatic conditions, reduce erosion, improve public health, urban aesthetics, and economic appeal, while positioning Abia as a sustainable state.
