Following the end of the six-month emergency rule in Rivers State declared by President Bola Tinubu, there are calls to investigate the tenure of the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (retd.). The emergency, imposed in March 2025 due to political conflicts between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and ex-ally Nyesom Wike, was lifted after a truce and the conduct of local elections.

While Fubara’s allies have resumed office, he has not been seen since the declaration ended. The suspension of the governor and the declaration of emergency sparked controversy, with critics arguing that the president lacked constitutional authority, as some stakeholders believed proper legal procedures were not followed.
