‎ Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, HAVE  presented welfare and life assurance cheques worth ₦2.17 billion to families of 1,574 deceased police officers at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

He explained that the payments covered officers who died in service between 2015 and 2025, including long-outstanding claims.

Since he assumed office, the initiative has disbursed ₦24.2 billion to 9,735 families.

Egbetokun described the gesture as both a statutory responsibility and a “sacred trust” to honour fallen officers. He assured that welfare for serving, retired, and deceased personnel remains a priority, with reforms ongoing to digitise processes and ensure prompt payments.

He commended the Force Insurance Unit, urged insurance partners to remain diligent, and thanked President Bola Tinubu and the Ministry of Police Affairs for their support.

The IGP  ALSO offered condolences to the bereaved families, stressing that while money cannot replace their loss, the support reflects the Force’s gratitude and commitment to remembering them.
