The Imo State Government has imposed an immediate and complete ban on all mining and dredging activities within Owerri Capital Territory due to extensive environmental damage caused by unregulated sand mining.
The Commissioner for Industry, Mines, and Solid Minerals, Ernest Ibejiako, announced that years of uncontrolled mining have led to severe floods, soil erosion, and infrastructure collapse. He further emphasized that the government can no longer tolerate the environmental degradation and is committed to stopping the devastation.
