National Council of State has approved Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) from North-Central Nigeria as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), following President Tinubu’s nomination after Professor Mahmood Yakubu’s departure.
Amupitan, a 58-year-old law professor at the University of Jos, is the first from Kogi State to be appointed to this position and is noted for his integrity.
The President will now forward his name to the Senate for approval. Amupitan has an extensive academic and legal background, including roles as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at UNIJOS, author of numerous legal publications, and involvement in various legal and educational boards.
