Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina has dissolved the national assembly abruptly, amid escalating tensions with youth-led protesters and the military, who had forced him to flee the country.
The move is aimed to block an upcoming opposition-led impeachment attempt and was announced after Rajoelina’s flight to France for safety. Recall Protesters, are demanding his resignation over water and power shortages, expressing disappointment and frustration with his refusal to step down.
Rajoelina, whose current whereabouts are unknown, claimed he left for safety reasons and stated he consulted with legislative leaders, though the legality of the dissolution remains uncertain.
