Senior adviser to the U.S. President Donald Trump on Arab and African affairs, Massad Boulos has dismissed claims of a Christian genocide in Nigeria.
Speaking after meeting President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, Boulos said terrorism in Nigeria affects all groups regardless of religion or ethnicity, noting that Boko Haram and ISIS have killed more Muslims than Christians.
He described Nigeria as a diverse nation with an almost equal split between Christians and Muslims, saying the violence in the Middle Belt stems mainly from farmer-herder conflicts rather than religious persecution.
Boulos commended the Tinubu administration’s recent security efforts and affirmed U.S. support for continued cooperation to combat terrorism and promote peace in Nigeria.
