Federal Government has clarified that Mathematics remains a compulsory subject for students sitting the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), despite recent changes to tertiary admission policies.
Although the Ministry of Education announced that arts students no longer need a credit in Mathematics for university admission, spokesperson representing the ministry, Boriowo Folasade, emphasized that all students must still register and sit for both Mathematics and English Language in their SSCE.
Explaining further, he highlighted the policy change only affects admission criteria for certain programs, not the requirement to study or pass these core subjects, which are essential for a strong educational foundation and are aligned with global best practices.
