West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed reports claiming it issued a directive limiting Senior Secondary students’ subject choices for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

In a statement, WAEC described these reports as unfounded and urged schools and the public to disregard them. The Council clarified that it does not influence curriculum development or subject restrictions, as these are the responsibilities of the Nigerian Federal Government.

WAEC emphasizes that it only implements government-approved curricula through assessments and operates within established legal frameworks.
