‎North Korea has tested several sea-to-surface cruise missiles in the Yellow Sea, with the missiles flying for over two hours before hitting targets, according to state media. The test was overseen by top military official Pak Jong Chon, who stated it aimed to improve North Korea’s nuclear deterrent and strategic capabilities.

The missile launches occurred just before a planned visit by U.S. President Donald Trump to South Korea, where he is also scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping. While a  potential Trump-Kim summit remains unlikely, North Korea has refused talks since their diplomacy fell apart in 2019.

Also, Trump previously visited Japan, where he expressed support for families of Japanese abducted by North Korea, which had admitted to kidnapping 13 Japanese citizens, though Japan claims 17 were abducted.
