Despite a 1-1 draw with Benin Republic in Abeokuta, Nigeria’s women’s national team, the Super Falcons, qualified for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco with a 3-1 aggregate victory.

The first leg in Lome ended 2-0 in Nigeria’s favor. In the match, Ashley Plumptre scored Nigeria’s opening goal, but Benin equalized through Yasminath Djibril.

However, playing at home, the Falcons displayed confidence and resilience, with key chances created by Asisat Oshoala and others. Also, despite Benin’s spirited effort, Nigeria maintained their lead and secured qualification, which further keeps their hopes alive for defending their title and earning a spot in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
