Federal Government has released ₦2.3 billion to clear salary and promotion arrears for university lecturers as part of efforts to resolve ongoing disputes with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other unions. Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa said the payment, representing Batch 8 arrears, reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving staff welfare and clearing inherited backlogs.
He also announced plans to mainstream the Earned Academic Allowance into university salaries from 2026 and confirmed that additional funds have been released under the Needs Assessment of Nigerian Universities. Alausa emphasized that all agreements with unions will be realistic and financially sustainable, with negotiations continuing through the Yayale Ahmed Committee
