Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) have agreed to strengthen cooperation to combat illicit trade through improved border control, intelligence sharing, and harmonised customs procedures. This commitment was made during NCS Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi’s visit to GRA Commissioner-General Anthony Sarpong in Accra.
Mr. Sarpong emphasised that closer collaboration would enhance trade integrity and support the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), while praising the NCS for inspiring Ghana’s customs innovations.
MEANWHILE Mr. Adeniyi highlighted the need for both countries to revive their 2001 customs cooperation agreement, noting that criminals exploit gaps between African customs systems to facilitate smuggling and drug trafficking. He stressed that deeper collaboration in intelligence exchange and capacity building would strengthen regional trade security and boost economic growth across Africa.
