President Bola Tinubu has dispatched a high-level delegation to London to negotiate the transfer of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, who is serving a prison sentence in the UK since March 2023 for organ trafficking.

The delegation, including the Foreign Affairs Minister and the Attorney General, held discussions with UK officials and submitted a formal request for Ekweremadu to serve the remainder of his sentence in Nigeria.

While the Nigerian government is actively seeking arrangements for his repatriation. Ekweremadu was convicted in the UK for attempting to bring a young man from Lagos for a kidney transplant for his daughter, Sonia. His wife, Beatrice, was also sentenced but was released early and returned to Nigeria.
