U.S. House Subcommittee on Africa has held a public hearing to review President Donald Trump’s recent designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC).

This classification subjects Nigeria to increased scrutiny over alleged violations of religious freedom. Lawmakers gathered at 5 p.m. to assess the potential impact of this designation, which, if approved by the Senate, could lead to sanctions against Nigerian officials implicated in religious persecution.

Additionally, the CPC status could result in the restriction of certain U.S. bilateral assistance to Nigeria.
