Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has ordered the unsealing of the Renewed Hope Partner office belonging to Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, in Umuahia.
The directive followed a formal request from Kalu, according to a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku.
The government clarified that the building was originally sealed by the state Harmonised Task Force as part of a broad enforcement of court orders on properties with outstanding statutory obligations. It said the action was not politically motivated but part of a general clampdown on defaulters.
According to the statement, the property owed ground rent dating back to 1982, and its lease expires on December 31, 2025. The enforcement exercise, which began in August 2025, targeted 83 properties in Umuahia and 91 in Aba, with most owners now complying.
