Unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has identified Deontay Wilder as his preferred opponent for his next fight.
After stopping Daniel Dubois in July to become a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion, Usyk vacated his WBO belt, allowing Fabio Wardley to be elevated to full champion.
Usyk said he finds a fight with Wilder “interesting,” citing the American’s past status as a dominant puncher and major heavyweight figure despite his recent decline.
Wilder has struggled since his trilogy with Tyson Fury, suffering consecutive knockout losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, and only returning in June to defeat low-profile opponent Tyrrell Anthony Herndon.
