A severe fire has broke out near Ores in Spain’s northeastern Aragon region amid an intense heatwave, rapidly spreading across dry vegetation.
Authorities evacuated at least five villages as thick smoke enveloped the area and flames threatened homes, farmland, and vital infrastructure. Military emergency units, including Spain’s Unidad Militar de Emergencias (UME), along with civilian firefighters, worked tirelessly to contain the blaze using high-pressure hoses, firebreaks, and aerial water drops from helicopters and aircraft.
Regional official Roberto Bermúdez de Castro described the incident as one of the most serious in recent years, with multiple active fronts and resource strain. Firefighters faced extreme conditions, with temperatures nearing 40°C, low humidity, and shifting winds complicating efforts.
