Federal Government has officially renamed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as the President Bola Tinubu Coastal Highway, in honor of the President’s long-term vision for the project. Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced this development on Thursday during a media briefing in Abuja, also revealing that President Tinubu approved a 400-kilometre extension of the Fourth Legacy Highway and reconstruction of sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Umahi stated that the renaming was decided after consultations within the Ministry of Works, recognizing President Tinubu’s dream for the highway dating back 27 years when he was Lagos State governor. The first section of the highway, from Victoria Island to Lekki, is a major milestone, featuring a six-lane carriageway with a median for a future railway line.
Additionally, the President approved extending the Fourth Legacy Highway from 700 to 1,100 kilometres, connecting Akwanga to Borno State through Taraba. The approval also includes dualization of part of the East-West Road, reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, completion of the Ibi Bridge in Taraba, and construction of the Lao Bridge, all aimed at enhancing connectivity and boosting economic growth across Nigeria.
