Supreme Court has upheld the final forfeiture of seven high-value properties linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, overturning a Court of Appeal ruling that ordered a retrial.
The five-member panel, led by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, unanimously ruled in favor of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), affirming the earlier judgment of the Federal High Court that ordered the assets’ forfeiture to the government.
The properties include multiple residences in Lagos and Ikoyi, undeveloped land, an industrial complex, apartments, and share certificates worth over $2 million. The court’s decision effectively ends Emefiele’s legal challenge against the forfeiture, restoring the assets to the Federal Government. The case has been ongoing since Justice Dipeolu’s initial ruling in November 2024, which was later nullified by the Court of Appeal in June 2025.
