FIFA is planning to break football tradition by presenting World Cup winners rings to the champions of Sunday’s final between Argentina and Spain at MetLife Stadium.
The ceremony will feature U.S. President Donald Trump, who is scheduled to present the World Cup trophy itself. While rings are common in American sports like the NFL, this marks a radical departure for FIFA, which typically awards gold medals.
Thirty exclusive rings will be given to the winners, with nearly 2,000 replica rings available for fans. Although the tournament is co-hosted in North America, Trump has not attended any matches until now, but he will be in VIP suites for the final.
