An exceptionally intense heat wave has swept across Tunisia with temperatures reaching nearly 50 degrees Celsius and breaking regional records.
According to local media, the central governorate of Kairouan recorded a high of 49.7°C, surpassing its previous record of 49.2°C, while Zaghouan reached 48.6°C, exceeding its prior high of 48°C. The extreme heat posed additional challenges for blacksmiths and traditional bread bakers, as their ovens and tools intensified the heat.
Residents responded by hydrating, seeking shade, and cooling off in swimming spots and green areas. Additionally, the meteorological department attributed the record-breaking temperatures to the peak of the heatwave, which caused widespread concern across the country.
