The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) have agreed to strengthen their collaboration on climate services, data management, and resilience initiatives through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The agreement follows a meeting between NiMet’s Director-General, Charles Anosike, and NCCC’s Chief, Tenioye Majekodunmi, during which Anosike emphasized NiMet’s role as the keeper of Nigeria’s long-term meteorological records essential for climate analysis and policy support. He highlighted the importance of joint efforts in developing climate projections, improving early warning systems, and standardizing data to aid policymakers in climate adaptation and access to international climate finance.
Majekodunmi welcomed the partnership, reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing climate policies and protecting communities. This renewed alliance builds on previous collaborations, including efforts to enhance climate governance and expand partnerships with universities and development organizations, aimed at improving climate data, research, and community resilience.
