The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has announced on Tuesday that 31 companies have won 37 oil and gas blocks in the 2025 Licensing Round, despite facing threats and pressure during the evaluation process. The licensing process, which lasted eight months, concluded with a commercial bid conference in Abuja, where successful firms were instructed to pay signature bonuses and meet post-award conditions within 90 days to retain their assets.
NUPRC Chief Executive Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan confirmed that evaluators endured intimidation but maintained the integrity and transparency of the process, which was supported by automated scoring systems to prevent human interference.
She however, urged the winners to commence post-award procedures immediately, warning that failure to meet conditions could result in forfeiture of the assets to reserve bidders.
