Speaker Tajudeen Abbas has urged the National Assembly to take full control of its infrastructure from the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) through a bill establishing the National Assembly Infrastructure and Property Development Agency.

Speaking at a public hearing in Abuja, Abbas, represented by Ali Isa, called the legislation timely and essential for better management, oversight, and accountability of the legislature’s assets.

He highlighted issues like maintenance delays and safety risks under FCDA’s control, proposing a dedicated agency to handle development, management, and preservation of National Assembly infrastructure, including affiliated institutions. Citing global models like the U.S. Architect of the Capitol, Abbas emphasized institutional autonomy and efficiency. The agency would operate under a robust governance structure with regular reporting for transparency.
