Nnamdi Kanu, the jailed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has officially terminated the services of his longtime personal lawyer, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, and instructed him to cease representing him, his family, or IPOB in any capacity, according to a letter dated July 22, 2026, from the Sokoto Correctional Centre.
Kanu stated that the lawyer’s engagement had been previously ended verbally and this letter serves as formal confirmation. He further emphasized that Ejiofor no longer has any authority to speak or act on behalf of IPOB, citing the organization’s Code of Conduct, which reserves appointment and dismissal powers to Kanu himself.
Kanu also ordered Ejiofor to stop making public statements, granting interviews, or issuing press releases for him or IPOB and to withdraw from any ongoing legal matters where he remains counsel.
