The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Dike Micheal, over a fatal road accident near the main gate of Imo State University, Owerri. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, reportedly killing 19-year-old student Chibuike Friday and injuring another victim, Bright Ukwuoma.
Police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect was allegedly driving at high speed and participating in an illegal street race when he knocked down the deceased while he was crossing the road.
The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, condemned the alleged reckless driving and ordered a comprehensive investigation, assuring that the suspect would be prosecuted after investigations are concluded.
